OLD WEST PHOTOGRAPHY
Livermore Rodeo, Livermore, Cal. dated 6-12-38
One snap of the whole parade and look what it is. A
great shot of the old Salinas Stagecoach. You can read on the side where this stagecoach
went up to Sacramento and Redding. Photo measures 2" X 3" approx and is a little
over exposed, as you can see.

1840's Train w/Stagecoach Cars at 1892 Columbian
Exposition.
Great photo of very early 1840's train with tender wagon and three
stagecoaches for cars. Each coach is numbered No. 1, etc. and has the RR name on the doors
but I can't make it out. Image is photographer signed in bottom right corner
"Chaffee". This train was on display at the Columbian Exposition of
1892 & 93. As you can see there is another train on display in the background. Photo
measures 7" X 4 9/16" and has had the mount torn away up to the photo with most
of the mount still attached to the back of the photo. Minor roughness on bottom edge, left
center, and left side, middle also minor fading to image as you can see in the scan,
however contrast & focus of image is good.

Two Men & 4 Women with Rifles & Dog.
What a group photo! 6 people in their Sunday best sitting on or standing
by a log in the woods. 2 men and 4 women with both men and 2 women holding rifles. The men
are holding Winchester lever action guns, the one on the right has a Model 94 and the one
on the left has a Model 86, I think. The two women are holding 22's, one Winchester pump
with hammer and not sure of the other. The women in the light outfit sitting in the middle
has a dog on her lap, the other looks post mortem with a watch on her chest. Image is 7
1/2" X 4 3/4" mounted to matte, corners of matte are rounded with some staining
but doesn't affect the image. No photographer and location is unknown.

Annie Oakley "Want to Be" Cab. Card
Full length of Girl holding 2 Colt SAAs w/SW Mod 2 in holster. This is a great photo of
either an Annie Oakley wantabe posing for the camera or a Wild West Show Star. She's
holding two Colt Single Action Army's in her hands and what looks like a Smith &
Wesson Model 2 revolver in her holster. She has a very casual but "I dare you"
look in her eyes and wearing a medal on her chest. She probably just won it. Studio
setting at C. J. Howe's at 137 E. Water St., Elmira, N. Y. Corners of the card are rough
with the top right corner affecting the very corner of the image background. There's a
stain on the bottom right corner of the card that you can see in picture but doesn't
affect the image and the address printed on the card, in the middle of the stain, is fully
legible. There's a crease across the lower quarter of the image and another from that one
through the rocks to the edge. One more small break from top of card through to the brim
of her hat on the far right side. It's hard to see in the picture. This is still a hard to
find, great image.

Western Author, Brett Harte
Nice portrait CDV of Brett Harte by Sarony of New York, the photo is over Sarony's printed
name on the mount. Brett Harte is known for his stories and poetry about life in the
goldfields of California, Like "The Outcast of Poker Flat". Pencil scribble on
back, looks like M.M.O. or G.

Gun Collection
Here's a rare and unusual photograph of a gun
collection probably taken around or after the turn of the century. The newest gun in the
scene is a German Mauser (Broom handle) that was introduced in the late 1890's. The other
interesting items in the scene are 7 Historical Flasks from the 1840's to 60's. The one in
the middle is a scroll flask with 3 more on each end of the shelf that splits the rifles
from the pistols. The photo measures 7" X 5" and the mount measures almost
10" X 8". There is some foxing on the image and some stains on the mount.
